CANCELLED: ANC 5B FY 2022 Budget Discussion

Please note that this meeting has been cancelled. A discussion and vote on the proposed FY 22 Budget will take place on Wednesday, November 17th, 2022 via a virtual meeting.

An in-person* only meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 10th at 6PM to review and discuss the Treasurer’s proposed ANC 5B 2022 Budget/Spending Plan.

See below for the proposed spending plan as well as a link to a ANC 5B03 survey you can fill out if you are unable to make it to the meeting on Wednesday (or if you just feel uncomfortable meeting in-doors during the public health emergency).

Advisory Neighborhood Commissions receive an annual allotment of funds to support the needs of the residents within their communities. For 2022, ANC 5B has been allotted $13,144 to spend in support of the community.

If you are interested in weighing in on the Treasurer’s proposed ANC 5B budget for 2022, please click here to be taken to a survey.

ANCs are required to solicit feedback from the community on any proposed budgets. One way I am collecting input is via this survey. I want to hear directly from you on how you think we should utilize our $13,144 allotment to best support the needs of the greater Brookland community in 2022.

Below are some current and potential budget line items. For each item below, please tell us if you think the allotted amount should be increased, decreased or stay the same as what is proposed in the treasurer's spending plan.

Here’s an overview of what the proposed spending plan includes:

  • Direct Office Cost: Rent for a one-room office ($6,600) and a leased commercial printer (~$3,000).

  • Communication: Three phones ($1,700+) and “padding” for other items (examples that have been raised for consideration include business cards, a new laptop for the commission, door hangers, or commission website)

  • Bank Charges: Fees to obtain copies from the bank of checks ANC 5B has written.

  • Other: Late fee charges for our bills.

I am collecting names and addresses to ensure responses are from 5B constituents. All responses will be kept confidential to 5B Commissioners only and will be reported in aggregate (as a whole).

**Please note, I am individually soliciting this feedback as one way of "eliciting comments from residents of the Commission area" per DC Law. This survey is not meant to be on behalf of the full ANC 5B commission. While I will happily forward on survey responses to other ANC Commissioners if you are outside of SMD 5B03 boundaries, you can also weigh in on the proposed budget with your Single Member District (SMD) Commissioners directly. E-mails for each Commissioner are as follows:

5B01@anc.dc.gov for Gayle Carley

5B02@anc.dc.gov for Ursula Higgins

5B041@anc.dc.gov for Ra Amin

5B05@anc.dc.gov for Colleen Costello

Thank you!

Prita

  • Additional Note: I am unclear why the Chair (Commissioner Ursula Higgins) and the Treasurer (Commissioner Ra Amin) are insisting that this meeting be held in-person only and are refusing to make a hybrid option available. ANC 5B has not held an in-person only meeting since the beginning of the public health emergency and it is unclear why they are requiring that this be the format now. I am actively trying to understand the intention for this and convince our colleagues to, at the very least, offer a hybrid option. I will keep everyone updated as we learn more.
