Event Information
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), under Mayor Bowser’s leadership, is hosting an Open Streets event on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 9am to 1pm. Half a mile of 12th Street NE will be open to pedestrians and cyclists to create a day of car-free fun. This event will feature healthy activities suitable for all ages and abilities. The concept helps inspire people to think differently about their streets by encouraging physical activity, creating recreational opportunities, and fostering community building and education.
EVENT LOCATION:
Activities will be on 12th Street NE between Monroe Street NE and Franklin Street NE. No vehicles will be allowed on the route or to cross the route. One block east and west of 12th Street NE will also be closed, except for residents of that block. Residents may not drive on 12th Street NE during the closure.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS:
Parking will not be allowed on 12th Street NE from Monroe Street NE to Franklin Street NE from 11:59 on Friday August 26, 2022 through 2:00pm on Saturday August 27, 2022. Limited parking on side streets within one block east and west of 12th Street NE will be allowed for residents of that block as spaces are available.
DELIVERY SERVICES:
There will be no vehicular traffic on or across 12th Street NE. If you plan to use a food delivery service, you may want to communicate with the driver that there is a closure so they can plan accordingly.
BUS DETOURS:
All Metro buses will operate on detoured routes. WMATA will release the alternative routes approximately two weeks before the event.
